Ernst Eichler (ice hockey player)
Ernst Eichler (born December 19, 1925 in Komotau , Czechoslovakia ; † May 20, 2005 in Mannheim ) was a German ice hockey player and from 1984 to 1988 Vice President of the German Ice Hockey Federation .
As a soldier he was first transferred to Poland in the Second World War and then to Lithuania in 1943. Later he was taken to a hospital and survived an English bomb attack there unharmed. After the Second World War he studied veterinary medicine in Giessen . He then had the chance to take on an assistant position at the Frankfurt Zoo , but decided on his favorite sport and played for VfL Bad Nauheim from 1947 to 1956 (319 games, 227 goals) and from 1956 to 1964 for the Mannheim ERC . After his active career, he became ice hockey chairman at the Mannheim ERC and in the Baden-Württemberg ice skating association, then later game director of the ice hockey Bundesliga and from 1984 to 1988 vice president of the German ice hockey association. At the Olympic Games in 1972 and 1988 he was Germany's deputy head of delegation. In 1988 Eichler was made an honorary member of the DEB.
