Ernst Faseth
Ernst Faseth (born January 14, 1917 in Vienna , † April 22, 2008 in Baden near Vienna ) was an Austrian chef who was best known for a cooking show on Austrian television .
Life
Ernst Faseth, whose father was a tool fitter, learned his trade from 1934 in the Südbahnhotel on the Semmering Pass . One of his instructors there was Robert Dorré , former personal cook of the heir to the throne, Archduke Franz Ferdinand .
After completing his training, Faseth worked, among other things, as the personal chef of Princess Stephanie von Hohenlohe in England.
During the Second World War, Faseth was so badly injured in Russia that he was no longer fit for military service. He then worked at the Vienna Hotel Management School, where he worked until his retirement in 1985.
Between 1962 and 1978 he worked as a television chef at ORF and designed around 150 programs. During this time he achieved great popularity. Until 1985 he looked after colleagues who succeeded him in this position.
In 1964, as head of the teaching kitchen at the hotel management school, Faseth won a gold medal at the 11th International Culinary Art Exhibition in Frankfurt and, together with the Austrian team (consisting of Pokorny, Helmuth Misak , Nizinsky and Hans Hofer ), won the Gold Grand Prize and the IKA Prize
In December 1977 the Viennese provincial government decided to award Ernst Faseth, Hans Hofer and Helmuth Misak the Golden Merit of the State of Vienna . However, they were not honored for their prominence as TV chefs, but for their role as leading functionaries of the Association of Austrian Chefs and the associated further improvement in the international reputation of culinary art in Vienna. According to a report in the Arbeiter-Zeitung on February 19, 1978, however, he received the Silver Medal of Honor.
Ernst Faseth died in Baden in 2008 . He was buried in his home town Bad Vöslau .
