Ernst Feigenwinter (born March 16, 1853 in Reinach ; † September 15, 1919 in Bern ) was a Swiss politician ( Catholic Conservative ).

Life

After the district school in Therwil and the grammar school in Basel Feigenwinter studied law in Berlin , Strasbourg , Munich and Basel from 1874 to 1878 . In 1878 he received his doctorate as Dr. iur. and from 1879 was a lawyer in Basel and editor and administrative president of the Basler Volksblatt . From 1893 to 1902 and from 1905 to 1919 he was a member of the Basel Grand Council , which he chaired in 1918. Feigenwinter was also a National Councilor for two years after the parliamentary elections in 1917 .

His first marriage was to Berta von Blarer (1858–1904). From this marriage came two daughters and one son; one daughter was Maria Elisabeth Feigenwinter (1887–1977), a pioneer in social work . The other, Maria Bertha, was the mother of the Valais politician Peter von Roten .

In his second marriage (from 1910) he was married to Hedwig Kym (1860-1949).

Feigenwinter was part of the Christian social wing of the Catholic conservative faction. He was a member of the Union de Friborg , an association of Catholic-social politicians, co-founder of the Swiss Workers 'Union (together with Herman Greulich ) and central president of the Association of Catholic men's and workers' associations. He is also a co-founder of the old manor of AKV Rauracia Basel in the Swiss Student Association.
