Ernst Feil

Ernst Feil (born May 15, 1932 in Dorsten ; † March 11, 2013 in Munich ) was a German Roman Catholic theologian .

life and work

Feil studied Roman Catholic theology , Greek and philosophy in Münster , Innsbruck and Munich . After the first and second state exams and the legal clerkship for the teaching post at grammar schools, Feil was a study assessor in Recklinghausen . In 1962 he became a research assistant to Johann Baptist Metz at the fundamental theological seminar of the Catholic Theological Faculty of the Westphalian Wilhelms University in Münster. He was in 1970 with a thesis on the understanding of the world at the Catholic Theological Faculty in Münster Dietrich Bonhoeffer to Dr. theol. PhD . From 1971 Feil taught as a full professor in Dortmund . In 1975 he was appointed to the Chair of Systematic Theology and Religious Education at the Catholic Theological Faculty of the Ludwig Maximilian University in Munich , where he taught until his retirement. His main work are the four volumes on “Religio” (published between 1986 and 2007); it systematically clarifies the different positions of the historical development of a central dimension of human existence. He was a clear-thinking, systematic and precise researching theologian with a vision and a sense for the questions of the present. His theology was linked to a philosophically supporting foundation.

Ernst Feil had been a member of the Bund New Germany since 1950 , worked as a theological advisor at Bundestag parliaments from 1974 and from 1977 to 1979 in a leading position at the federal level. He is one of the signatories of the memorandum “Church 2011 - A Necessary Awakening”. Ernst Feil was married to Mechthild (née Kochs) in Gilching ; they have two daughters Monika and Christine.
