Ernst Friedrich Ockel

Ernst Friedrich Ockel (born November 16, 1742 in Mengeringhausen , † March 22, 1816 presumably in Mitau ) was an Evangelical Lutheran clergyman in Courland .

Life

Origin and family

Ernst Friedrich presumably comes from the noble family Ockel von Sallwitz . He was a son of the deacon and rector Johann Gottfried Ockel († 1744) and Johannette Elisabeth Wilhelmina, née Daudeyin. He was probably married to Charlotte Blachiere († 1815) from Hanau . The marriage produced at least one son, Peter.

Career

Ockel completed his school visit in Mengeringhausen and decided to go to the orphanage in Halle . In 1760 he studied in Halle and Jena , possibly also in Göttingen . From 1762 he stayed in Waldeck and taught, among other things, the Prince Ludwig von Waldeck (1752-1793) for two years .

From 1768 he stayed in Courland. In 1773 he was pastor-adjunct and in 1774 pastor in Nerft . From 1776 to 1786 he was pastor in Sahten and from 1780 at the same time provost of the Kandau diocese and member of the consistory . From 1786 he was German early preacher in Mitau and Kurland superintendent . As such, he carried out church visits in the Oberland. He was promoted to Dr. theol. the University of Greifswald doctorate . From 1795 he was clerical president of the consistory and from 1806 consistorial councilor.

Ockel was a rationalist and writer .
