Ernst Günther Herzberg

Ernst Günther Herzberg (born December 20, 1923 in Schneidemühl ; † August 7, 1989 ) was a German educator and politician ( FDP ).

Life and work

After attending elementary school and high school , Herzberg was drafted into the Navy and participated in World War II as a naval officer . He then completed a degree at the University of Education in Kiel . He initially worked as a librarian in the Lübeck school service, then switched to the commercial day school in Münster as a commercial teacher and deputy headmaster , and in 1956 began working as a primary school teacher at the Martin Luther School in Münster.

Herzberg was the state chairman of North Rhine-Westphalia from 1955 to 1960 and deputy federal chairman of the German Young Democrats from 1958 to 1960 . In 1956 he was elected to the state executive committee of the FDP North Rhine-Westphalia , of which he was a member until 1968. From 1957 to 1959 he was initially deputy chairman, from 1959 to 1968 then chairman of the FDP district association North Westphalia .

Herzberg initially worked in local politics and from 1956 to 1964 was a citizen representative in the social committee of the city of Münster. From July 21, 1958 until his resignation on January 27, 1967, he was a member of the North Rhine-Westphalia state parliament and from 1962 deputy chairman of the FDP parliamentary group as well as chairman of the committee for refugee and displaced persons. On July 1, 1964, he took part in the 4th Federal Assembly for the election of the Federal President of the Federal Republic of Germany as a delegate of the North Rhine-Westphalian state parliament .

From January 26, 1967, Ernst Günther Herzberg was State Secretary in the Prime Minister’s division . There he took over the management of the State Office for Political Education, Youth and Sport in the State Chancellery . On October 1, 1967, he was transferred to the Ministry of Culture of North Rhine-Westphalia . As part of his political activities, he became a member of the Broadcasting Council of the WDR and a member of the board of trustees of the Haus des Deutschen Ostens Foundation . On August 31, 1970, he was transferred into temporary retirement .
