Ernst Gossler (lawyer)

Ernst Gossler (born November 15, 1806 in Hamburg ; † January 25, 1889 there ) was a German lawyer.

Ernst Gossler was a son of the Hamburg Senator Johann Heinrich Gossler (1775–1842), his brothers were Hermann Gossler (1802–1877), Johann Heinrich Gossler (1805–1879) and Wilhelm Gossler (1811–1895). It was in 1831 at the University of Heidelberg to the Dr. jur. doctorate and the following year in Hamburg as a lawyer admitted. In 1843 Gossler was elected judge at the Hamburg lower court and in 1861 president . With the introduction of the Reich Justice Acts , he retired in 1879.

Gossler served as a member of the poor college from 1852 to 1868 and was a member of the health council in this capacity from 1854. He was a member of the administration of St. Michaeliskirche from 1871 to 1887 , initially as a parish councilor and from 1882 as church director. Gossler was a member of the convent of the municipalities from 1871 to 1880 and a member of the synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Hamburg from 1880 to 1886 . He served as chairman of the committee of the Berlin-Hamburger Bahn and was a member of the board of the Philharmonic Society. From 1854 to 1887 Gossler was the patron of the Welken school for the poor.

Gossler belonged to the Hamburg parliament from 1859 to 1862 . He was elected first Vice President on December 18, 1861 and dismissed on January 4, 1862 at his own request.

Ernst Gossler married Mathilde Hüffel (* 1814) in 1837, they had five sons and two daughters. The eldest son Ernst was a banker and president of the Hamburg Chamber of Commerce .

Ernst Gossler and his wife Mathilde are remembered on the double collecting grave plate of the Gossler family in the Althamburg Memorial Cemetery, Ohlsdorf Cemetery .
