Ernst Höhler

Ernst Heinrich Friedrich Höhler (born June 26, 1942 in Wuppertal ; † February 2, 2019 in Aachen ) was a German architect .

Life

After completing his military service in 1961/62, Ernst Höhler studied architecture at RWTH Aachen University. In 1970 he founded the architecture office “Höhler und Weiss”, which has been operating under the name “Höhler + Partner” since 1987 in Aachen, Hamburg , Berlin , Munich and Oman. He was a member of the Association of German Architects (BDA) and worked together with the architects Herzog & de Meuron for the Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg.

Höhler has been committed to the German University of Technology in Oman in Oman since 2004 , and he played a key role in the architectural structure of the latter.

Since 2011 he has been chairman of the Friends of the Ludwig Forum for International Art and also a patron of this museum. As Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Aachen Art Prize, he sponsored artists such as Paweł Althamer , Phyllida Barlow , Paulina Olowska , Franz Erhard Walther and Walid Raad . He initiated the research project “Platform Aachen”, which provided the impetus for contemporary art.

Ernst Höhler was married to Inge; there are two daughters from the marriage.
