Ernst Hermann Richter (born June 27, 1900 ; died April 25, 1959 ) was a German science fiction writer. He wrote mostly under the pseudonyms William Brown and Ernest Terridge .

Life

Richter was a judicial inspector by profession. In his spare time he was interested in rocket technology and from 1953 wrote a series of science fiction novels that were published by what was then Hönne and Bewin publishers. They are characterized by Reclam's science fiction guide as "rather conservative".

Together with Walter Ernsting (aka Clark Darlton) and Heinz Bingenheimer (aka Henry Bings), Richter was one of the first members of the Science Fiction Club Germany and, in its early years, head of the literary department , which was responsible for awarding the Science Fiction Club seal Germany was responsible. Seven works by Richter were awarded the club seal.

The Bewin publishing house used by Richter's death the pseudonym William Brown unauthorized as Verlagspseudonym on, which then by Winfried Scholz (aka WW Shols ), Hans Peschke (aka Harvey Patton was used) at multiple titles. After an objection from Richter's heirs, further titles appeared in Bewin-Verlag under W. Brown . The authorship of the novel Die neue Erde , which was published in 1958, during Richter's lifetime, remains unclear . Since Richter was already seriously ill at this point in time, it is assumed that Winfried Scholz is the author here.

Individual evidence

  1. In the literature - for example in the Heyne Lexikon der SF literature - the year of death is incorrectly stated as 1958. The correct date of death appears in the obituary for Ernst H. Richter in Wolf Detlef Rohrs Blick in die Zukunft # 27/28 (May / June 1959) and in the obituary in Heinz Bingenheimer's Transgalaxis # 8 (May 1959).
