Ernst Hiemer

Ernst Ludwig Hiemer (born July 5, 1900 in Großweingarten near Schwabach , † July 29, 1974 in Altötting , Bavaria ) was a German writer.

Life

Ernst Hiemer was a teacher by profession. During the time of National Socialism he was the representative of the Reich Press Chamber at the state cultural administrator of the Swabian Gau. He published the anti-Semitic children's and youth books Der Giftpilz (illustrated by Fips ), which reached a circulation of 70,000 in the year of its publication, and Der Pudelmopsdackelpinscher (illustrated by Willi Hofmann). The toadstool was so exemplary of National Socialist youth propaganda that it was published in English translation in the Friends of Europe Publications book series in 1938 , a series that was intended to make Nazi propaganda literature available in English translation. The foreword to the translation was written by Herbert Hensley Henson , Anglican Bishop of Durham and an uncompromising anti-Nazi party.

From 1938 to around 1942, Hiemer was the chief editor of the anti-Semitic and seditious weekly newspaper Der Stürmer , in which he wrote anti-Semitic leading articles. In an editorial from May 1942, for example , he justified the Holocaust by describing Judaism as "organized world crime" that was "only eliminated" when "Judaism ceased to exist throughout the world."

After the end of the war, Hiemer was interned for three and a half years (June 17, 1945 - December 14, 1948) in the US internment camp in Nuremberg-Langwasser. He was banned from working as a teacher.

On April 30, 1946, he was questioned by his superior Julius Streicher as part of the Nuremberg Trials . After his release from internment, Hiemer continued to live in Nuremberg.

He died on July 29, 1974 in Altötting.

All of Hiemer's book publications were placed on the list of literature to be sorted out in the Soviet zone of occupation .
