Ernst Jacobi (lawyer)

Ernst Jacobi (born February 19, 1867 in Lübben , † July 2, 1946 in Freren ) was a German lawyer .

Life

The son of the district court counselor Ernst Jacobi and Johanna Kitz studied law at the universities of Breslau , Freiburg im Breisgau , Bonn and Berlin after graduating from high school in Frankfurt an der Oder . During his studies in 1886 he became a member of the KDStV Winfridia Breslau in the CV . He received his doctorate in 1897 in Breslau, where he received a teaching position before he was appointed to the newly founded law and political science faculty of the University of Münster in 1902 . There he received a chair for German legal history. In 1916/17 he was rectorthe University. Since 1904 he was a member of the Center Party .

After the handover of power to the National Socialists in 1933, he was forced to resign from his position as dean of the law faculty for racial reasons , as two of his grandparents were Jewish. In 1934 he retired .

The parental family had converted from Judaism to Catholicism at the turn of the century . Jacobi married Elisabeth Vagedes in 1899 and had a daughter Therese (* 1902) and sons Martin (* 1900) and Ewald Felix (* 1907) with her.
