Ernst John (ethnographer)

Ernst Hermann Hugo John (born October 21, 1867 in Annaberg ; † September 5, 1937 there ) was a German teacher and ethnographer from the Saxon Ore Mountains .

Life

He grew up as the son of a railway worker who died prematurely with his mother and grandparents in Gößnitz , where he also went to school. In 1882 he moved to Meerane to the secondary school and in 1884 to the Saxon teacher training college in Waldenburg. In 1890 he got his first job as an assistant teacher in Ziegelheim , where he stayed for three years until he took over the vicariate in Oberwürschnitz in 1893 . But even as a vicar he was not happy. Only after successfully completing further training as a drawing teacher in Dresden did he find his final appointment as a teacher and teacher at the Royal Teachers 'College in Annaberg after a short stay at the Aue Citizens' School .

In his free time he was interested in popular life in the Ore Mountains and presented several publications about it, of which the following two are the most important:
