Ernst Kohlmeyer

Ernst Kohlmeyer (born March 27, 1882 in Hänigsen ; † March 6, 1959 in Berchtesgaden ) was a German theologian.

Life

After graduating from high school in Celle , he studied theology and humanities at the universities of Freiburg im Breisgau , Erlangen , Greifswald and Göttingen from 1901 to 1906 . From 1907 to 1909 he attended the Loccum seminary. In 1911 he completed his habilitation for church history at the University of Göttingen , where he also worked as a private lecturer . During the First World War he was a naval chaplain , where he served at the front for a year and was awarded the Iron Cross, 2nd class . In 1916 he was made a permanent professor at the University of Kiel , and in 1920 he became a full professor of church history there. In 1926 he followed a call to Breslau , in 1930 he came to Halle an der Saale . In 1935 he accepted a position in Bonn (in exchange for Ernst Wolf ). Kohlmeyer retired due to illness in 1944 , and in 1946 he returned to Bonn University for a semester .
