Ernst Konrad Holtzendorff

Ernst Konrad Holtzendorff (born September 27, 1688 in Berlin ; † February 17, 1751 at Gut Colbitz) was the first surgeon general in the Prussian army .

Life

Holtzendorff was the son of a court counselor and court council president in Berlin.

He became regimental field sergeant of the royal guard and came to Brabant with her in 1706 . In 1707 he was sent to Italy, France, Switzerland and Germany on trips to further his education.

On his initiative, the Berlin Anatomical Theater was built in 1713 . It was located in the building at Spandauer Tor and was converted into a state military and civil hospital in 1714. In 1716 he became director of surgery and a member of the Academy of Sciences and personal surgeon of the king.

In 1719 he was able to relieve King Friedrich Wilhelm I of severe suffering. The contacts established in this way enabled him to improve the training of military doctors. Doctors were sent abroad at state expense to expand their knowledge. In 1724 the Theatrum Anatomicum became the Collegium medico-chirurgicum . In the same year he was accepted as a foreign member of the Royal Prussian Society of Sciences .

In 1728 Holtzendorff became the administrator of the Lübbecke bishopric near Minden .

Holtzendorff introduced many modern elements into the training. After the basic training, the future doctors came to the Berlin Charité , where they worked under the supervision of experienced doctors and were also familiarized with anatomy and theory.

With the beginning of the First Silesian War he retired, successor in the position of general surgeon was JH Bouness.

family

Holtzendorff was married to Barbara Cecillie, née von Senneville. The later major general Georg Ernst was his son.
