Ernst Konstantin von Droste zu Hülshoff (* March 14, 1770 ; † 1841 ) was a canon in Münster and landowner of the house of Stapel .

Life

Origin and family

Ernst Konstantin von Droste zu Hülshoff came from the 19th generation of the Westphalian noble family of barons Droste zu Hülshoff , one of the oldest and most important families in the Münsterland . He was one of four sons of Clemens August I. von Droste-Hulshoff (1730-1798) and his wife Maria Bernardina of the stretch to Steinfurt, the older daughter of Ferdinand Wilhelm von der Recke to Steinfurt and his wife Sophia Maria von Kerckerinck to Borg (1710–1751) and co-heir of her father's estate, Haus Steinfurt .

His eldest brother Clemens-August II. Von Droste zu Hülshoff inherited the family estate of Burg Hülshoff and became the father of the poet Annette von Droste-Hülshoff . Another brother Maximilian Friedrich (1764–1840) was canon in Münster, married and became a composer . The third brother Heinrich Johannes embarked on a permanent ecclesiastical career and was the last cathedral provost in Münster who came from a noble family. An uncle of the same name Ernst Konstantin von Droste zu Hülshoff (canon, 1736) was canon and even cathedral dean in Münster.

In 1792 Ernst Constantine was Maximilian Friedrich von Elverfeldt in his capacity as Turnar a vacant become Dompräbende in Munster . Without having received higher orders , he renounced his benefices in favor of Clemens Karl von Twickel and married his distant relative, Imperial Baron Maria Theresa von Kerckerinck zu Stapel on May 12, 1801 , taking on the name of Imperial Baron von Droste-Kerckerinck . The marriage resulted in 23 children. He built the existing classicist castle with 55 rooms for his family.
