Ernst Liebermann

Ernst Liebermann (born May 9, 1869 in Langemüß near Meiningen ; † February 11, 1960 in Beuerberg / Upper Bavaria) was a German painter , graphic artist and illustrator .

Liebermann received his training at the Berlin Academy of the Arts from 1890 to 1893 with Josef Scheurenberg . After study trips through Germany, Italy and a longer stay in Paris, he was mainly active in Langemüß and from 1897 in Munich where he worked as an illustrator . In 1904 he worked as a book illustrator ( Der Froschkönig ) in the edition of Grimm's Fairy Tales - Illustrated in Art Nouveau of a picture book series by the Josef Scholz publishing house; he was also one of the illustrators of the anthology Kindersang - Heimatklang (1907).

In 1925 the fairy tale book The Cloud King by Albert Sixtus was published with several full-page color illustrations.

He lithographed numerous city and country vedutas and only later turned to painting . His numerous impressionist pictures - portraits, nudes, landscapes - were mostly in warm earth colors with a romantic touch. Among other things, he also created the ceiling paintings in Kirchheim near Erfurt . His art was figurative and his nudes met the National Socialist conception of art . He was represented several times at the Great German Art Exhibitions in Munich's Haus der Kunst , in 1939 with the painting Dorf an der Loisach and in 1942 with Najade an der Quelle . In the final phase of the Second World War , Hitler included him in August 1944 on the God-gifted list of the most important painters in his eyes.

At times he also worked on the Munich magazine “ Jugend ”. In the Künstlerbund Bayern he was a member of the jury and 1st secretary. He was also chairman of the “Association of Drawing Artists” and a member of the Munich “ Luitpold Group ”.

As a full member of the German Association of Artists , Liebermann was constantly represented with works in the Glaspalast and received the 2nd gold medal in 1913. His pictures can now be found in the Städtische Galerie Rosenheim and many other museums. The prices for his oil paintings are now in the five-digit range.

On January 13, 2019, an episode of the NDR's Lieb & Teuer program was broadcast, moderated by Janin Ullmann and filmed in Reinbek Castle . In it, an oil painting by Ernst Liebermann from 1909 entitled Young Oaks was discussed with painting expert Beate Rhenisch .
