Ernst Meyer (Pedagogue)

Ernst Meyer (born July 10, 1920 in Worms , † June 5, 2007 in Schriesheim ) was a German educator and professor of educational science at the University of Education in Heidelberg .

Life and accomplishments

Ernst Meyer studied at the universities in Frankfurt and Mainz. After twelve years in school and teacher training, he began to work scientifically and as a writer, also as an editor of series and magazines. In 1958 he became head of practical school training at the Pädagogische Akademie Worms, in 1959 Professor of School Education at the University of Education in Berlin and in 1961 Professor of Educational Science and head of practical school training at the University of Education in Heidelberg. This classic, which emerged during the pioneering days of a new pedagogy, is included by educators in the great educational texts of school pedagogy.

In 1968 he became vice president, then in 1983 president of the World Association for the Renewal of Education (German-speaking section). In 1972 Meyer was appointed President of the International Society for Group Activity in Education, in 1973 he became a member of the board of the Society for Group Activity in Education, of which he became honorary director in 1995, in 1974 he took over the scientific management of the European Pedagogical Symposium Upper Inn Valley (EPSO) .
