Ernst Nowack

Ernst Nowack , until 1919 Nowak, (born October 9, 1891 in Mníšek , † March 7, 1946 in Seeham ) was an Austrian geologist .

Life

After graduating from high school in Prague, Nowack studied geology, petrography and geography at the German University in Prague from 1909 and received his doctorate in 1914 on the Silurian in Bohemia. In 1917/18 he was a military geologist in Albania and then until 1922 assistant to Wilhelm Petrascheck at the Montanistische Hochschule Leoben . From 1922 to 1924 he was a national geologist in Albania and due to his work the first geological map of Albania was published in 1929 (on a scale of 1: 200,000). In 1923 he completed his habilitation in Leoben and in 1925 became an assistant at the TH Vienna . In 1926 he was on behalf of the Turkish government in Anatolia as a geological advisor and from 1929 to 1931 an expert for the Tauern power plant for AEG . From 1930 to 1932 he conducted research again in Albania (Gulf of Valona ) and from 1934 to 1937 in Tanganyika . Then he was 1937 to 1939 with the geologist Clemens Lebling (1884-1967) on behalf of the Italian SA Mineraria in Ethiopia (highlands of Harrar , land of the Konso ). His experiences were published after his death in 1954 (Land und Volk der Konso, publisher C. Troll). From 1939 to 1945 he was a military geologist in the Balkans.
