Ernst Otto Leuenberger (born September 13, 1856 in Bern , † May 13, 1937 in Lugano ) was a Swiss landscape and genre painter.

Life

Ernst Otto Leuenberger studied at the Royal Art School in Stuttgart under Karl Ludwig , from October 20, 1880 at the Royal Academy of Arts in Munich under Sándor Wagner and Johann Leonhard Raab and later at the Grand Ducal Art School in Karlsruhe under Ferdinand Keller and Karl Hoff .

He then went on study trips to Paris . Leuenberger settled in Zurich and worked as a genre and landscape painter. He was the teacher of the painter Johann Robert Schürch .

style

In an auction catalog it is said that Leuenberger created “an artistic synthesis from Alemannic, Welsh and Romance components”, “which is purely Swiss art”. The components are described more precisely as “Latin lightness and serenity”, “Alemannic humor”, “sleeping romance” and “contemplative thoughtfulness”.
