Ernst Pauer (theologian)

Ernst Pauer (also: Paur ; * December 14, 1791 in Bratislava ; † February 13, 1861 in Vienna ) was an Austrian Evangelical Lutheran theologian .

Life

Ernst Pauer came to Vienna in 1819 and became the first preacher in the Lutheran City Church . In 1845 he succeeded Christian Heyser as Superintendent of the Evangelical Superintendent of Vienna , which at that time also included Lower Austria and Inner Austria . He held this office until his death. In addition, Pauer was director of the Protestant theological institute, the later Protestant theological faculty of the University of Vienna , as well as the City Council of Vienna. In recognition of his services, he was awarded the Knight's Cross of the Franz Joseph Order in 1851 .

Ernst Pauer was married to Sophie Pauer, a daughter of the piano maker and pianist Andreas Streicher . Their son Ernst Pauer and his son Max von Pauer also became famous pianists.

Ernst Pauer's grave is in the Matzleinsdorf Evangelical Cemetery in Vienna, which he opened in 1858 together with the Evangelical Reformed superintendent Gottfried Franz .
