Ernst Preising (born September 25, 1911 in Osterode am Harz ; † August 12, 2007 in Bispingen ) was a German plant sociologist and conservationist in Lower Saxony .

Life

Preising studied gardening and landscaping in Berlin, as well as plant sociology with Reinhold Tüxen . He received his doctorate in agricultural science in 1940. From 1950 he had a teaching position for plant sociology, from 1954 for nature conservation at the then University of Horticulture and Regional Culture Hanover in Sarstedt , one of the predecessors of today's Faculty of Architecture and Landscape at the University of Hanover . From 1954, Preising headed the State Agency for Nature Conservation and Landscape Management and the resulting specialist authority for nature conservation in Hanover until his retirement in 1976. There, as the "highest official nature conservationist for years" in Lower Saxony ( Der Spiegel ), he played a major role in the development of what was at times strong for German conditions Nature conservation administration in Lower Saxony. Preising was active on a voluntary basis in the "Association for Nature Conservation and Landscape Management in Lower Saxony" (BfNL), of which he was one of the founding members and which later became the Lower Saxony State Association of the Association for the Environment and Nature Conservation (BUND). He played a special role in the planning and implementation of the renaturation of heather and moor areas, including the recultivation of the red areas in the Lüneburg Heath nature reserve , areas that have been used for military purposes since the 1930s .
