Ernst Roth

Ernst Roth (born April 28, 1901 in Ernstweiler ; † May 14, 1951 in Strasbourg ) was a German politician ( SPS , later SPD ).

Life

Roth completed a journalistic training and worked as an editor from 1924 . He had been a member of the SPD since 1920. In 1932/33 he was a member of the Reichstag . He was also chairman of the Reich Banner Black-Red-Gold in Mannheim . In 1933 he emigrated to the Saar region and in 1934 to France. From 1935 to 1939 he was a member of the resistance group New Beginning , then a partisan and member of the “Free Germany” Committee for the West (CALPO).

From 1945 Roth was editor-in-chief of the Saarbrücker Zeitung , from 1946 also of the Social Democratic People's Voice in Saarbrücken and Secretary General of the Social Democratic Party of Saarland (SPS), in which he represented the pro-German wing. In 1946 he became an alderman for the city of Saarbrücken. After his resignation, forced by the pro-French party leadership, he left Saarland in 1948 and became district administrator in the Frankenthal district (Palatinate) . He was a member of the Bundestag from the first Bundestag election in 1949 until his death. He was directly elected to parliament with 39.4% of the valid votes cast in the Neustadt an der Weinstrasse constituency.
