Ernst Sandau

Ernst Sandau (* 1880 in Linköping ; † May 31, 1918 in Berlin ) was a photographer.

Life

Little is known about Ernst Sandau's life. His original name was supposedly Ernst Sigfrid Pettersson, according to some internet sources; he is said to have changed it around 1895. Arrived in Berlin around 1905, where he established himself as a portrait photographer. From around 1910 he ran his studio in the house at Unter den Linden 19, where Erich Sellin had worked before him , later the Sandau studio was in house no. 41, where Tita Binz later also worked.

Sandau was a royal Swedish court photographer and civil engineer. He was married from 1909 to 1916; his marriage to Cornelia von Schmoller was divorced on January 17, 1916. His ex-wife married Pierre Schrumpf-Pierron a little later .

Ernst Sandau's photo studio in Berlin was taken over by Suse Byk .

His son of the same name also became a photographer; from this come numerous portraits of personalities of the Third Reich .
