Ernst Schmid (politician, 1949)

Ernst Schmid (born August 24, 1949 in Eisenstadt , Burgenland ) is an Austrian member of the SPÖ state parliament and mayor of the Burgenland community of Oggau on Lake Neusiedl .

Life

After the primary school in Oggau (1955 to 1959), the postal worker attended secondary school for two years and then moved to the Don Bosco Gymnasium Unterwaltersdorf in 1961 , which he left in 1965 to start the postal service. His last job was as a postal director.

politics

In the political arena, Schmid was initially involved in local politics, where he was Vice Mayor of Oggau from 1980 to 1997. In 1997 he was elected mayor. Schmid also represented the SPÖ-Burgenland from June 27, 1996 to October 9, 1996 in the Federal Council and then switched to the Burgenland State Parliament on October 10, 1996. Most recently, he was deputy chairman in the petitions committee and SPÖ area spokesman for local affairs, municipalities and services of general interest. In 2001 he succeeded Walter Prior as President of the Burgenland Social Democratic Community Representative. Schmid did not run in the state elections in Burgenland in 2010 . and left the state parliament on June 24, 2010.

Within the party, Schmid was local party chairman of the SPÖ-Oggau, district chairman deputy as well as a member of the party presidium and the board of directors.

After the municipal council election in 2017 , his son Thomas Schmid succeeded him as mayor of Oggau.
