Thomas Schmid (politician, 1975)

Thomas Schmid (born October 18, 1975 ) is an Austrian politician of the Social Democratic Party of Austria (SPÖ). He has been the mayor of the market town of Oggau on Lake Neusiedl since 2017 and a member of the Burgenland state parliament since February 17, 2020 .

Life

education and profession

Thomas Schmid was born as the son of the politician Ernst Schmid . After primary school in Oggau am Neusiedler See and lower school at the Kurzwiese Federal High School in Eisenstadt, he attended the HTBLA Eisenstadt , where he graduated in 1995 . In 1995/96 he did military service . He was a Sales Support Engineer at Schindler Fahrtreppen International GmbH , and in 2018 he became a project manager at Energie Burgenland - Servic und Technik GmbH .

politics

Schmid has been SPÖ local party chairman in Oggau since 2001, where he was a member of the local council from 2004. After the 2017 municipal council elections , he succeeded his father as mayor of Oggau, who held this office for twenty years. In the early state elections in Burgenland 2020 , he ran in state electoral district 2 ( Eisenstadt-Umgebung , Eisenstadt and Rust district) in eighth place on the list. After Harald Neumayer, who was in front of him, waived his mandate, he was appointed to the constituent meeting of the XXII. Legislative period as a member of the Burgenland Landtag , where he became a member of the Petitions Committee and the Environment Committee. In the SPÖ state parliament club, he acts as the area spokesman for spatial planning and village renewal.
