Johannes Mezgolits

Johannes Mezgolits (born January 23, 1979 ) is an Austrian politician of the Austrian People's Party (ÖVP). He has been the mayor of Donnerskirchen since 2012 and a member of the Burgenland state parliament since February 17, 2020 .

Life

After primary school in Donnerskirchen and lower school at Theresianum Eisenstadt, Johannes Mezgolits attended a technical school for mechanical engineering from 1993 to 1997 .

In the Young People's Party (JVP) he was the local chairman in Donnerskirchen as well as the district chairman's deputy in the Eisenstadt district. From 2007 to 2012 he was Deputy Mayor of Donnerskirchen , where he succeeded Josef Frippus (SPÖ) as Mayor after the 2012 municipal council election . In 2018 he became deputy district party chairman of the ÖVP in the Eisenstadt district and state manager of the Austrian Workers' Union (ÖAAB) in Burgenland. Since 2019 he has been a member of the Chamber of Commerce as a parliamentary group spokesman for the ÖVP employees in the Chamber of Labor (AK).

In the early state elections in Burgenland 2020 , he ran behind Christoph Wolf and Martina Schmitt in third place on the list in state electoral district 2 (Eisenstadt-Umgebung, Eisenstadt and Rust district). Mezgolits overtook Martina Schmitt, who was in front of him, in the preferential votes and thus won a mandate. On February 17, 2020, he was appointed at the constituent meeting of the XXII. Legislative period as a member of the Burgenland Landtag . In the state parliament he was deputy chairman in the social committee and a member of the petitions committee, in the ÖVP state parliament club he acts as area spokesman for employees, apprentices, commuters and housing.
