Ilse Benkö

Ilse Benkö (born April 7, 1961 ) is an Austrian politician ( FPÖ ) and has been a member of the Burgenland Landtag since 2000 . From July 2015 to February 2020 she was its third president .

Life

Benkö attended elementary and secondary school and then graduated from a higher education institution for women's economic professions. Benkö has been a member of the state parliament since July 6, 2000 and in the XIX. Legislative period Member of the Committee on European Integration and Cross-Border Cooperation. She is also the FPÖ area spokesperson for social issues, youth, sport and women, justice, schools and ethnic groups. Benkö was a councilor and councilor in the city of Oberwart and has been the district party leader of the FPÖ in the Oberwart district since 2004 .

Benkö was president of the Burgenland basketball association from 2005 to 2008 and played for Güssing, Oberwart and Vienna as well as in the national team. She was the first woman in Austria to lead a regional association. In 2015 she became the third President of the Burgenland Parliament.

After the municipal council elections in Burgenland in 2017 , Benkö resigned as city councilor in Oberwart and resigned her mandate on the municipal council, Christian Benedek succeeded her as FPÖ city councilor.

After the 2020 state elections , she was succeeded by Kurt Maczek as the third state president on February 17, 2020 .
