Ernst Adolf Louis Schroeder (born September 8, 1889 in Bartenstein , † October 14, 1971 in Darmstadt ) was a German local politician ( FDP ) and mayor of Darmstadt. During the Second World War he was the mayor of the annexed Königshütte .

Life

Ernst Schroeder studied law and political science at the Albertus University of Königsberg and at the Albert-Ludwigs-University of Freiburg . Schroeder took part in the First World War as a volunteer . During the war he reached the rank of vice sergeant . From 1911 to 1920 Schroeder worked at the local courts in Zinten and Königsberg . From 1922 to 1923 he worked as a regional councilor in the regional directorate of the Memel region and as a city ​​councilor in Memel . In 1923 Schroeder was expelled from Memel by the Lithuanians . From 1924 to 1930 he worked in the city administration of Königsberg. In 1930 Schroeder was elected Lord Mayor of Schneidemühl . After the National Socialists came to power , he had to resign. From 1934 to 1940 he worked as city treasurer of Wroclaw . From 1940 to 1945 he was Lord Mayor of Königshütte .

After fleeing West Prussia , Schroeder was interned in the American occupation zone . In 1948 he came to Darmstadt . On December 2, 1948, he was elected mayor of Darmstadt. On June 24, 1954 he was re-elected as mayor. On April 1, 1961, Schroeder gave up the office of mayor at his own request. He was 71 years old at the time. In Darmstadt, Schroeder was the mayor's representative and was responsible for cultural and property management. He died on October 14, 1971 in Darmstadt.
