Ernst Stegmann

Ernst Stegmann (born October 31, 1870 in Bischofroda , † February 20, 1955 in Weimar ) was a German politician .

Life

Born into a farming family, Stegmann studied law and camera sciences in Jena , Berlin and Munich after attending grammar schools in Weimar and Eisenach . During his studies he became a member of the Teutonia Jena fraternity in 1891 , from which he left in 1935. After exams and legal clerkship , he became an assistant judge at the district court in Weimar and Auma . In 1898 he passed his assessor examination in Jena and became mayor of Buttstädt . In 1901 he became first mayor of Apolda , and from 1906 mayor . After he had not belonged to any party in his life and did not want to join the NSDAP during the National Socialist era , he was forced to resign in 1934. He moved to Weimar, where he was persecuted and spied on, and in 1938 he was even arrested and tortured.
