Ernst Tengelmann
Ernst Tengelmann (born January 14, 1870 in Somborn , Bochum district , † March 30, 1954 in Essen ) was a German entrepreneur.
Life
After graduating from the mountain school in Bochum, he was a Steiger in Wanne from 1893 to 1896, then a driver and weather climber in Herten until 1898 and from 1898 the manager of the Hercules colliery in Essen.
From 1901 he was director of the mine and eventually belonged to the board of the Essen coal mines. From 1913 to 1942 he was general director and chairman of the board of the Essener Steinkohlenbergwerke AG and chairman of the board of the Gelsenkirchener Bergwerks-AG . Along with Carl Hold and Gustav Knepper , he was one of the most influential figures in Ruhr mining in the 1930s. After his retirement he was a member of the supervisory board of Essener Steinkohlenbergwerke AG.
From 1922 to 1943 he was President of the Essen Chamber of Commerce and Industry. From 1913 to 1945 he was a city councilor in Essen , initially for the National Association, from 1924 for the DVP and from 1934 for the NSDAP .
Tengelmann was a member of the NSDAP from 1930. His sons Walter and Wilhelm also worked actively for the party. At the secret meeting with Hitler on February 20, 1933 , he also promised him financial support.
