Born at the time of the Kingdom of Hanover , Ernst Tremper founded his own photographic company in the German Empire at the end of the 19th century in Hanover in 1894. After having worked for several years as head master of the Hanoverian “Photographers” guild in the 20th century , he was able to celebrate his 25th business anniversary at the beginning of the Weimar Republic on June 9, 1919 at his company headquarters at 60 Alte Celler Heerstrasse .

Tremper published partly consecutively numbered postcards , such as the one marked with the four-digit number 1208 with a view of the city hall of Hanover.

As a publisher, Tremper also published photographs of his fellow photographers. For example, a photograph by Carl Dransfeld from around 1930 with a view from Nordmannstrasse of the Anzeiger high-rise designed by the architect Fritz Höger can now be found as silver gelatine paper mounted on cardboard in the Museum für Kunst und Gewerbe Hamburg (MK&G).

Ernst Tremper worked for many years on the board of his guild and was later made an honorary member of the Hanover Photography Guild . He died in late 1934 at the age of 78.
