Ernst Wernher

Ernst Wernher (born July 11, 1837 in Nierstein ; † November 25, 1909 there ) was a German businessman, mayor and member of the 1st and 2nd chambers of the state estates of the Grand Duchy of Hesse ( NLP ).

Ernst Wernher was the son of the landowner and MP Philipp Wilhelm Wernher (1802-1887) and his wife Katharina née Dilg (1810-1865). Wernher, who was a Protestant denomination, married on May 31, 1862 in Darmstadt (Julie) Friederike born Wernher (born June 1, 1841 in Bensheim, † December 4, 1892 in Nierstein), daughter of the Privy Council and director of the Chamber of Accounts Julius Carl Wernher (1803–1878) and Marianne Oppermann (1815–1846). The marriage resulted in the son Paul Wernher (* 1865), who became a farmer, landowner in Nierstein, in 1899 director of the Nierstein cooperative dairy and a district expert on phylloxera in the Oppenheim district.

Ernst Wernher was a merchant in Nierstein. In 1874 he was one of the founders of the Nierstein agricultural consumer association.

In 1887 he became alderman and in 1897 mayor of Nierstein.

From 1893 to 1897 he was a member of the Second Chamber of the Estates. He was elected for the constituency Rheinhessen 7 / Nieder-Olm . On December 13, 1905, he was appointed by the Grand Duke as a member of the First Chamber of Estates for life. On May 29, 1906, the Grand Duke accepted Wernher's resignation from the mandate in the first chamber.

He was honored with the title of Economics Council. On November 25, 1908, he was awarded the Knight's Cross First Class of the Order of Merit of Philip the Magnanimous .
