Life
Ernst Theodor Zuppinger grew up as one of ten children of the master painter Otto Zuppinger on the Gemeindestrasse in Zurich-Hottingen. He learned the painting trade from his father. In 1908 he moved to Muralto near Locarno on Via Attilio Baldi . On excursions into the near and far surroundings, he painted numerous typical Ticino motifs such as stables, stone houses, vineyards and landscapes. In Locarno, Zuppinger maintained contacts with other painters such as Janci Adamina, Filippo Franzoni, Bruno Nizzola and Hugo Strauss. Zuppinger was married to Marie Zuppinger from Bachenbülach . The marriage remained childless. He died of stomach cancer on October 18, 1948, at the age of 73 in Locarno.
