Ernst von Maydell

Ernst von Maydell (born January 4, 1888 in Vogelsang in Estonia , † December 25, 1960 in Grafing near Munich ) was a German-Baltic painter.

Life

Ernst von Maydell was a student of Wilhelm Purvit at the art school in Riga and a student at the Debschitz school in Munich . From 1921 to 1925 he worked as a painter in Berchtesgaden , from 1925 to 1928 in southern Italy and then worked again (at least until 1930) in Munich. In 1940 he was represented at the Great German Art Exhibition . He worked temporarily in the United States, where he was exhibited in 1931 at the Corcoran Gallery of Art , 1950 at the Delaware Art Museum and 1951 at the Wadsworth Atheneum . He later lived in Grafing near Munich and was honored with an exhibition in the Lenbachhaus in 1960 . Some of his brush drawings and watercolors have a "delicate, precious character".
