Ernst von Rudloff

Ernst von Rudloff (* 1928 in Freiburg im Breisgau ) is a German architect and university professor .

Life

Von Rudloff grew up in Freiburg im Breisgau and in Königsberg in East Prussia . He completed an apprenticeship as a carpenter and took a trip to Sweden in 1948 , which led to contact and occupation with Scandinavian architecture . In 1949 he began studying architecture at RWTH Aachen . There he made friends with Eckhard Schulze-Fielitz . A study trip took him to Italy , France , Spain and Morocco . After graduating from RWTH Aachen University in 1954, he went to Basel , where he worked for the Suter + Suter architectural office until 1955 and gained his first professional experience as an architect. The architect Ulrich Schmidt von Altenstadt has also worked there since 1953 . With him and Schulze-Fielitz, von Rudloff founded an architects' association on April 1, 1955 in Essen , an industrial city booming during the “ economic miracle ” with almost 680,000 inhabitants at the time. In 1959, Rudloff separated from his partners and founded his own office in Essen, which later existed in Düsseldorf and in 1992 in Cologne . In 1968 von Rudloff received a position as a lecturer at the Werkkunstschule Krefeld, building design department. In 1971/1972 the areas of architecture and interior design at the Werkkunstschule Krefeld merged with the Düsseldorf University of Applied Sciences , where von Rudloff taught as a professor the subject of “building construction (architecture)”.
