Erol Kahraman (born January 2, 1983 in London , United Kingdom ) is a Canadian - Turkish ice hockey goalkeeper who has been under contract with Koç Üniversitesi SK in the Turkish Super League since 2017 .

Career

Club

Erol Kahraman, who was born in London to Turkish Cypriot parents , began his career as an ice hockey player with the Elmira Sugar Kings , a Canadian junior team. Later he was with the Lucknow Lancers, also from the province of Ontario in the gate. In 2010 he left North America and moved to the Turkish Super League , where he first played at the university sports club Ankara . After a year he moved to Başkent Yıldızları SK , which is also based in the Turkish capital. In both 2012 and 2013 he became Turkish champions with the club where he also served as goalkeeping coach . Despite these successes, he left the team in the summer of 2013 and joined the superleague promoted Zeytinburnu Belediye SK . In 2015 and 2016 he was also Turkish champion with Zeytinburnu. He has been playing for Koç Üniversitesi SK since 2017 .

National team

Kahraman made his first international appearance for Turkey at the Winter Universiade 2011 in Erzurum , where the hosts were eliminated in the preliminary round with 0:60 goals from three games (against Russia, Japan and the Czech Republic).

Kahraman was in the box for the Turkish men's selection for the first time at the 2013 World Cup , when he made a significant contribution to keeping the Bosporus team up with his parades in Division II and with his catch rate of 89.6% he became the second best goalkeeper of the tournament behind the Israeli Avihu Sorotzky advanced. He was also named the best player on his team. The following year he had to accept relegation to Division III due to a 2: 4 defeat in the decisive game against South Africa . At the World Championships in 2015 and 2016 , when he was voted the best goalkeeper of the tournament with the second lowest goal- keeper behind Gilles Mangen from Luxembourg and the third-best catch quota behind Mangen and Andrei Ilienko from Georgia , he played in Division III.
