Erol Pürlü

Erol Pürlü (* 1969 near Sivas , Turkey ) is a German Islamic scholar , imam and pastor . From October 2008 to March 2009 and from October 2010 to March 2011 he was the spokesman for the Coordination Council of Muslims in Germany , the umbrella association of the four largest Islamic organizations in Germany, which was founded during the German Islam Conference in 2007. Pürlü represents Islam in Germany in the media. In addition, he has been a member of the German Islam Conference since the beginning and is involved as a prison chaplain and in the Christian-Islamic dialogue.

Life

In 1977 Pürlü moved with his parents near Augsburg . After his school days in Germany , Pürlü received a theological training at the Association of Islamic Cultural Centers (VIKZ) in Cologne and studied Islamic sciences ( master's degree ), Semitic and pedagogy at the university there . There he was involved in setting up the Islamic Academy ISLAH (Villa Hahnenburg). Pürlü is a German citizen .

From 2001 to 2005, Pürlü was the full-time Secretary General of the VIKZ. His main job is now there as a public relations officer. Pürlü was active in the association's own imam training for men and women.

Pürlü is one of the faces of the ZDF forum on Friday . He devoted his term of office as spokesman for the Coordination Council of Muslims to a. the plan to institutionalize the dialogue with the Central Council of Jews and to promote Islamic religious instruction in public schools. In February 2011, during his tenure as spokesman for the Coordination Council of Muslims, a legally controversial communiqué was signed with the North Rhine-Westphalian School Minister Sylvia Löhrmann on the introduction of Islamic religious instruction.
