Erol Sabanov (born May 16, 1974 in Aalen ) is a former German football player on the position of goalkeeper .

Career

As a youth, Sabanov of Turkish origin played for VfR Aalen in his hometown . In 1999 he rose with the first team in the Regionalliga Süd. In 2002 he moved within the league to 1. FC Saarbrücken . With the FCS, he made it to the second division in the 2003/04 season . If Sabanov was a regular goalkeeper in the first year in Saarland, he lost his regular place in the second half of the season after an injury to his knee. The following year he played his first professional games in the higher league on the first two match days, but then did not get beyond the reserve role. After unrest in the Saarbrücken team, Sabanov had to leave on November 15, 2004.

From January 2005 to the end of the 2006 season he was employed by SSV Jahn Regensburg in the Regionalliga Süd, where he was considered a public favorite by the Regensburg fans because of his closeness to the crowd. After the SSV was relegated to the Bayern League , the contract with Sabanov was not extended.

On July 7, 2006, he signed a contract with SSV Reutlingen 05 , but where he could not oust Marco Langner as the goalkeeper.

For family reasons, he moved to 1. FC Heidenheim in Heidenheim an der Brenz, around 20 km from his hometown Aalen, for the 2007/08 season . There he took over the role of team captain in 2008 . In the 2007/08 season he qualified with the FCH after the league reform for the new fourth-class Regionalliga Süd and played all 34 season games. In the following season, the team was champions in this division and made it to the 3rd division . In his second year as a professional he missed a few games due to a broken thumb, among other things, but was still number one in goal with 20 appearances, which he stayed the following year. In the 2011/12 season, the now 37-year-old wanted to slip into the second member, with the exception of two games in which he represented the young goalkeeper who was suspended from the red. From the 2012/13 season, however, he was again number 1 in the Heidenheimer Tor.

At the end of the 2013/14 season and promotion to the 2nd Bundesliga, Sabanov ended his career and took over the scouting department of the FCH.

From the 2015/16 season, Sabanov worked for the Stuttgarter Kickers for two years as co- and goalkeeping coach. In the latter position, he moved to SV Sandhausen at the beginning of the 2017/18 season , where he succeeded Daniel Ischdonat . After only one season he returned to Aalen to his hometown club.
