Daniel Ischdonat (born June 9, 1976 in Leverkusen ) is a former German soccer goalkeeper and current coach .

Career

Ischdonat played a total of 13 years for his home club Bayer 04 Leverkusen , two of them with the professionals. In 1996 he moved from his home club to the then regional league club Eintracht Trier , where he was a regular goalkeeper for a long time. With Eintracht, Ischdonat rose to the second Bundesliga in 2002 . In 2005 and 2006 he could not prevent the Trier relegation to the top division. On February 18, 1998, Ischdonat was the tragic hero in the DFB Cup semi -final match between Trier and former Bundesliga club MSV Duisburg . In the penalty shootout, he saved the last regular penalty kick of the MSV and thus enabled the 4-4 equalization. After all field players had shot, the goalkeepers of both teams had to compete. Thomas Gill from Duisburg scored to 10: 9 for MSV, Ischdonat missed.

After Trier's relegation from the regional league, Ischdonat switched to Bundesliga club 1. FSV Mainz 05 during the 2006 summer break , where he was to replace the injured Christian Wetklo as a substitute goalkeeper behind regular goalkeeper Dimo Wache . In the 2007/08 season Ischdonat moved between the posts due to injuries to the guard and Wetklo. In six games he allowed only three goals and played three times to zero. However, he also showed some uncertainties in the second half of the season, so that the last game of the season on May 18, 2008 was Ischdonat's last league appearance for Mainz. In the 2008/09 promotion season, Dimo was on guard again.

After his contract with Mainz 05 ended in summer 2009, Ischdonat was initially without a club. At the end of December 2009 he was signed by FSV Frankfurt until the end of the season . In the relegation-threatened second division, he had to place behind goalkeeper Patric Klandt . For the 2010/11 season, Ischdonat moved as goalkeeping coach and substitute goalkeeper to third division club SV Sandhausen . There he was initially only substitute goalkeeper behind Frederic Löhe . When he had to take a break after the fourth matchday due to an injury, Ischdonat made his first three appearances for SVS, but then had to give way to the recovered Löhe. In the second half of the season, Ischdonat enjoyed the trust of coach Gerd Dais, who had returned to Sandhausen . He was in goal from the 25th matchday until the end of the season, making a total of 17 appearances in 38 league games. In the following season he was set in goal and remained a support when winning the third division championship and thus promotion to the 2nd Bundesliga. In his place, the club signed another goalkeeping coach, Uwe Nägele, in the summer of 2011. Ishdonat was given the option to return to this position at the end of his active career. This case occurred in the summer of 2013 when he ended his playing career and then moved to the coaching staff. At the request of head coach Kenan Kocak , Ischdonat's commitment in Sandhausen will end at the end of the 2016/17 season .

From August 4, 2017, Ischdonat took over the post of goalkeeping coach at Eintracht Braunschweig on an interim basis for the long-term injured Alexander Kunze . At the beginning of the 2017/18 season he returned to Sandhausen.
