Career as a player
After the youth stations SC Ovelgönne, TSV Heiligenrode and VfL Brake, VfB Oldenburg and Bayer 04 Leverkusen and a total of 38 international matches for the U-15, U-16, U-17, U-18 and U-19 selections of the In 1992, DFB moved to Bundesliga club Borussia Mönchengladbach, where he was reserve goalkeeper behind Uwe Kamps for three years .
Wache achieved his breakthrough in 1995 with the then second division club 1. FSV Mainz 05, where he ousted his future goalkeeping coach Stephan Kuhnert and in 1999 replaced the outgoing Lars Schmidt as team captain. Wache experienced the three almost ascents of Mainz in 1997, 2002 and 2003 as a regular goalkeeper. In 2004, Wache was promoted to the Bundesliga on the fourth attempt with Mainz 05.
Between winter 1997/98 and winter 2005/06 he missed a total of 39 games due to a red card suspension and several injuries, including a metatarsal fracture; In the second half of the 2005/06 season, Wache was out for several months due to a knee injury.

FSV Mainz 05, which expired on June 30, 2010, was not extended. Then he ended his professional career. During his time at Mainz 05 he played 406 competitive games and was made honorary captain of Mainz at the end of his career .
In August 2012, the 38-year-old made a comeback in goal for SV Mehring . The reason for this was the plight of the club with too few regular goalkeepers. After five games with three wins and two defeats, Wache ended his engagement in Mehring on November 1, 2012.

He also made himself available as a prominent contact person in the Frankfurt Bürgerhospital in 2009. After an offer from Celtic FC in 1999, Wache turned down a lucrative exchange offer from Borussia Dortmund in December 2004 .
He ran a sports shop in downtown Mainz for ten years, initially on Gutenbergplatz and then on Römerpassage. A Mainz 05 fan shop was also integrated into the sports shop. The sports shop was closed at the end of 2012. At the same location, Wache and a Mainz restaurateur opened a combination of an American restaurant in the basement and a fan shop on the upper floor. After a year, the company filed for bankruptcy.
