Stephan Kuhnert (born September 7, 1960 in Baunatal ) is a former German soccer goalkeeper . From 1987 to 1999 he played in 283 competitive games for 1. FSV Mainz 05 . Since 1998 he has been a goalkeeping coach for Mainz.
Career
Kuhnert began his career in 1969 in the youth of KSV Baunatal . From 1979 he was in the squad of the first team of the KSV. In 1981 he moved to Wormatia Worms , where he was under contract until 1987. For Rheinhessen, Kuhnert played 31 games in the 2nd Bundesliga and 161 games in the then third-class Oberliga Südwest . The highlight of his time in Worms was the Southwest Championship in the 1985/86 season, when Wormatia took first place in the final table with one point ahead of FSV Salmrohr and Eintracht Trier . This placement would actually have entitled Wormatia to participate in the promotion round to the 2nd Bundesliga, but since the club had only submitted its license documents late, it was refused participation by the association.
In 1987 the goalkeeper moved to the Worms league competitor 1. FSV Mainz 05 . Here he immediately became a regular goalkeeper and rose to the 2nd Bundesliga in his first season with the Mainz team . He also remained a regular goalkeeper in the 2nd Bundesliga. By the end of his career in 1999, he played 211 games in the 2nd division, 66 games in the Oberliga and 6 games in the DFB Cup, before Dimo Wache ousted him. For the Mainz team , he made 18 games in the association league in 1998 and 1999 .
Kuhnert has been goalkeeping coach at Mainz 05 since 1998.
Others
Kuhnert scored the goal of the month as the second goalkeeper on October 29, 1989 , when he overcame the opposing goalkeeper with a tee shot from over 90 meters away in a league game against Borussia Neunkirchen .
He also scored on August 5, 1995 in the second division game against Hannover 96 with a header in the last minute of the game to make the final score 2-2. However, the game was rated 0: 2 in retrospect because of the involvement of Thomas Ziemer, who was not entitled to play .
