The Erpa is a ten kilometer long orographically left or southwestern stream in the Rhein-Erft district in the western part of North Rhine-Westphalia . It is a tributary of the Lechenicher Mühlenbach, a natural arm of the Rotbach , which was preserved when the river was regulated in the 19th century.
course
The Erpa rises near Weiler in the plane in the Euskirchen district on the border with the Rhein-Erft district . It rises there on the western edge of one of the east-tipped clods that structure the Zülpicher Börde . After it has left Erp , it mostly flows in a north-easterly direction, finally flowing north of Erftstadt - Ahrem into the Lechenicher Mühlenbach before the next fault edge . Surname
The name probably derives from ERL apa ab = Erlen-Bach. From the first documentary mention of the place Erp as "Erlipen" in the year 1140 one could deduce a settlement on an Erl-apa, on an Erlenbach, so that the Erpa is at the same time the namesake of the Erftstadt town Erp .
Flood and flood protection
The stream influences life in Erp, as there are fields and houses on its banks that are flooded when it rains very heavily. The flood-prone sections are at the mouth of the stream.
