Ervedal is a municipality ( freguesia ) in the Portuguese district ( concelho ) of Avis . It has 560 inhabitants (as of June 30, 2011).

history

The traces of human presence go back to the Paleolithic . Today's community already existed under the name Santa Maria de Ervedal in 1315 . With the renewed city rights from Avis, Ervedal also received its first city rights in 1512 . It was the seat of its own circle until 1835 and has belonged to Avis ever since.

Culture and sights

At the Barragem do Maranhão reservoir

The monuments of the community include the Herdade da Torre (also Monte da Torre ) and Monte das Azenhas estates , and the parish church Igreja Paroquial do Ervedal , also Igreja de São Barnabé , named after its patron saint , Barnabas . The most striking building is the also listed bridge of the place, officially Ponte sobre a Ribeira de Almadafe .

Ruins of windmills and water mills can be visited. A large number of archaeological finds, especially prehistoric tombs (Portuguese: Antas ), can also be seen. There is also a small archaeological museum, the Museu Arqueológico de Ervedal .

Ervedal is located on the Barragem do Maranhão reservoir . In addition to its diverse fishing, swimming and water sports opportunities, the ramified watercourses and arms of the lake also offer many opportunities for bird watching .
