Erwin Dumbrille

Erwin Dumbrille (born October 18, 1930 in Traverse City , Michigan , † January 29, 2013 in Valencia , California ) was an American film editor who oversaw over 20 cinema, television and documentary productions in the field of film editing . Including films like Namu, the predatory whale , Birds Do It or Havana, Habana .

life and career

Erwin L. Dumbrille was born in 1930 in Traverse City, Michigan, as the eldest son of the married couple Leon and Wantena (Beaber) Dumbrille. His father Leon Dumbrille worked locally as a piano tuner and projectionist. Dumbrille began his career in 1963 as an editor on the US TV series The Lawbreakers . He got his start in the cinema in 1966 for László Benedek's adventure film Namu, the predatory whale with Robert Lansing and John Anderson in the leading roles. In the same year he was the editor for Andrew Marton's family comedy Birds Do It .

In the decades that followed, Dumbrille mainly worked for television. As an editor, in addition to television films between the 1960s and 1990s, he also oversaw numerous episodes of television series such as Flipper , Off to See the Wizard , Time Express , Spider-Man - The Spider Man , Agent with a Heart or for the Vietnam series China Beach for which he received an Emmy nomination in 1988 along with fellow editor Christopher Nelson .

After his last theatrical work for Claude Brickell's drama Havana, Habana , dated 2007, Erwin Dumbrille ended his career as a film editor. Dumbrille died on January 29, 2013 at the age of 82 in Valencia, California.

Erwin Dumbrille was the older brother of Merlin Thomas Dumbrille (1931-2014), who worked for a radio station in Traverse City.
