Erwin Ehlert (born January 15, 1937 - † June 10, 2016 ) was a German football player. In 1959 and 1960 he played in the GDR Oberliga , the top division in GDR football , for BSG Chemie Zeitz .

Athletic career

At the age of 19, Erwin Ehlert began his career in national men's football in the 1956 season (calendar season) with six games in the second-rate GDR league for the company sports community (BSG) Chemie Zeitz. Until 1958 he remained a substitute with only 21 appearances in 78 point games in the three seasons. When BSG Chemie was promoted to the GDR league in 1958, Ehlert was only involved in five games. He made his breakthrough in the two top division seasons of Zeitzer. After a mixed start with six league games in the first half of the season, he was regularly used as a midfielder in all thirteen games in the second half of the season. As such, Ehlert played all 26 point games in 1960, but had to relegate his team back to the GDR league at the end of the season. When GDR football changed to the summer-spring game rhythm in 1961, 39 games had to be played in the GDR league between March 1961 and June 1962. Ehlert was again in all matches this time and also scored his only point goal in his league and senior league career. In the following three seasons he no longer came into play as before. 1962/63 he could only play three point games and also missed the final of the GDR soccer cup , which Zeitz surprisingly reached as a second division, but lost 3-0 against the upper division Motor Zwickau . In 1963/64 Ehlert was able to increase his stakes again to sixteen, on the other hand he was only used in a GDR league game in the 1964/65 season. This was his last and 125 point game in higher-class football, from which he then withdrew.
