Erwin Günther (dialect speaker)
Erwin Günther (born March 22, 1909 in Gottesgab , Böhmen ; † January 2, 1974 in Olbernhau ) was a German dialect speaker in the folk art ensemble "Heiteres Erzgebirge" from Olbernhau, which with Joachim Suss , Otto Kretzschmar and Hans Friedel and the Caldarelli siblings toured the GDR .
Life
Erwin Günther was born as the son of the folk poet and singer Anton Günther and Marie Zettl, the daughter of the carpenter who was in charge of building the Keilberg tower. He was the oldest of three children. The sisters Maria and Irmgard followed.
After primary school at the elementary and community school in Gottesgab, Erwin Günther went to Prague to study for four years. From 1928 to 1942 he was a teacher in the Bohemian border communities of Brandau and Gabrielahütten . During this time he married and had two sons. During the Second World War he served as a soldier on the Western Front and was taken prisoner of war.
After his release and return from captivity, he supported his mother and siblings, who had found accommodation in nearby Oberwiesenthal in 1945 as a result of the expulsion of the Germans from Czechoslovakia . Erwin Günther was not allowed to return to school after the Second World War in the GDR. To support the family, he earned a few groschen by singing and playing guitar in the restaurant " Neues Haus " in Oberwiesenthal, which was run by his brother-in-law and sister Maria at the time, and from 1949 to 1956 he was a representative for cosmetic articles.
In 1956 he was offered the position of dialect speaker in the folk art ensemble "Heiteres Erzgebirge" from Olbernhau. The previous speaker Karl Schreiter had dropped out due to health problems. Erwin Günther agreed and toured the GDR with Joachim Suss, Otto Kretzschmar and Hans Friedel, the trio "Heiteres Erzgebirge" and the Caldarelli siblings. During a tour of the Magdeburg district he suffered a heart attack on October 11, 1960. In 1961 he became a disability pensioner and after a while appeared in a small circle in the "home group Seiffen" and with the Uhlig family from Eppendorf. In 1972 it came with the singing band Neuhausen / Erzgeb. and zither player Dietmar Kempe around him to found a new musical group.
Erwin Günther, who has lived in Olbernhau since 1956, was also active in the Kulturbund der GDR , the alternative to the Erzgebirgsverein , which was banned in the GDR , and was a founding member of the working group "Nature and Homeland". In 1974 Erwin Günther died in Olbernhau.
