Erwin Gniza (born August 6, 1910 in Weinböhla ; † July 29, 2006 in Dresden ) was one of the pioneers of German industrial safety theory .

Life

Gniza studied pedagogy and music at the TH Dresden , whereby he financed his studies as a dance musician. After his probationary year in school, he switched to psychology .

In the 1940s, Erwin Gniza worked as Werner Straub's assistant on psychological issues relating to occupational safety. At the Institute of Labor Economics and Industrial safety in Dresden he worked from 1953 as deputy director. Together with Erhard Möhler and Bruno Schneider , Gniza developed the path theory of occupational safety in the 1950s. Today the approaches to the prevention of relationships and behavior belong to the common good of occupational safety and are reflected in the rules and regulations.

Another field of work was research on the question of human error . The industrial psychologist introduced the concept of “wrongdoing as current excessive demands ” to occupational safety. In addition to "work psychology", he also taught personality psychology , psychodiagnostics and statistics .

In December 2001 the Saxon Science Minister Hans Joachim Meyer presented Erwin Gniza with the Federal Cross of Merit on ribbon for his life's work on behalf of the Federal President . In the GDR he received the Patriotic Order of Merit in bronze in 1960 and in silver in 1970. In 1987 he received an honorary doctorate from the TU Dresden.
