Erwin Janchen
Emil Erwin Alfred Ritter von Janchen-Michel (born May 15, 1882 in Vöcklabruck , † July 10, 1970 in Vienna ) was an Austrian botanist . Its official botanical author abbreviation is “ Janch. ".
Live and act
He received his doctorate in 1923 from the University of Vienna . He was scientifically active in the botanical institute of the university, from 1933 at the University of Veterinary Medicine Vienna and as deputy director and from 1933 director of the botanical garden in Vienna. He went on several research trips. Among the plants first described by Janchen is the wild form of the rapeseed native to Austria ( Brassica rapa subsp. Silvestris , co-author here is Gustav Wendelberger ).
