Erwin Ohlemutz

Erwin Ohlemutz (born October 11, 1912 in Petterweil ; † August 19, 1942 in Armjansk ) was a German classical archaeologist .

Life

During his studies, Ohlemutz became a member of the Alemannia Gießen fraternity in 1931 . After studying classical archeology, he received his doctorate from the University of Giessen in 1938 . He then worked as an assistant to Willy Zschietzschmann at the University of Giessen . For 1941/42 he was awarded the travel grant of the German Archaeological Institute , which he was unable to compete due to the Second World War . He fell in August 1942 as a captain in the Crimea .

He was married to Margarethe Keller (born April 11, 1914 in Büdingen ), who had received her doctorate in Gießen in 1939 with a German dissertation.

In his dissertation, Ohlemutz succeeded in writing a cult history of ancient Pergamon based on the written, epigraphic and archaeological sources, which has not been replaced to this day.
