Erwin Rosenthal (orientalist)

Erwin Isak Jakob Rosenthal (born September 18, 1904 in Heilbronn , † June 5, 1991 in Cambridge ) was a British orientalist of German - Jewish origin.

Life

He studied in Heidelberg, Munich and Berlin. In 1931 he was at the University of Berlin with a thesis on Ibn Khaldun's thoughts on the state of Dr. phil. PhD. In 1933 he emigrated to England, where he found employment as a Hebrew lecturer and Semitist at the University of London . In 1936 he moved to the University of Manchester as a lecturer in Semitic languages ​​and literature, and in 1948 to the University of Cambridge . In 1971 he retired.
